A Weekend of Rest, Connection, and Rejuvenation at Maruia Hot Springs
A Weekend of Rest, Connection, and Rejuvenation at Maruia Hot Springs
Sometimes, the most precious gift we can give ourselves is permission to pause. To step away from the never-ending to-do list, the busyness of daily life, and the constant pull of responsibility. This past weekend at Maruia Hot Springs was exactly that—a practice in what I so often encourage others to do: slow down, rest deeply, and nourish the body and mind.
From the moment we arrived, the world seemed to soften. The crisp mountain air, the soothing warmth of the mineral-rich springs, and the quiet hum of nature set the perfect backdrop for a weekend of pure restoration. It wasn’t about doing more but about being—present with beautiful friends, with myself, and with the simple joys of the moment.
The Beauty of Letting Go
One of my favorite moments was watching a friend navigate the ‘big’ decision between muesli and French toast at breakfast. The waiter, with a knowing smile, gently reminded her to simply enjoy—to let go of any lingering food rules and choose what felt good in that moment. It was a small but powerful reminder of how often we overthink, how conditioned we can be to analyze rather than experience. And this weekend was all about experiencing—without guilt, without expectation, just with presence.
Deep Rest and True Connection
I don’t think I’ve ever yawned so much in my life! Between naps, slow nature walks, and soaking in the warmth of the springs, my body embraced the deep rest it had been craving. There was something so nourishing about lying back in the hot water, feeling the contrast of the cool mountain breeze on my face, and allowing my mind to fully exhale.
And then there was the connection—the kind that fills your heart and soul. We laughed until our bellies ached, had long conversations that flowed effortlessly, and met other like-minded people who were there for the same reason: to slow down and refill their cups. Whether it was yoga in the morning light, the shared experience of a cold plunge, or the quiet comfort of a massage, every moment felt like a deep exhale.
A Cup Overflowing
If I could bottle up the feeling of this weekend, it would be the sensation of being completely full—not in the busy, overstretched way, but in the way that comes from genuine rest, deep friendship, and true nourishment. Cup full is an understatement.
This weekend was a reminder that we don’t have to earn rest. We don’t have to justify slowing down. We are worthy of taking time to simply be. And sometimes, the most healing thing we can do is to pause, breathe, and let the world take care of itself for a little while.
Here’s to more weekends like this—where the only agenda is presence, pleasure, and deep, soul-filling connection.
