A Weekend of Connection, Movement, and Nourishment

This past weekend, I gifted myself the space to retreat—both physically and mentally—by joining an incredible gathering led by Bex and Chai from Kindred Yoga. From the moment I set off on my solo drive over Takaka Hill, I knew this was going to be a journey in more ways than one. That climb never fails to test me—its winding ascent and descent feel more like a mountain than a hill—but each time I do it, I find a little more ease, a little more trust in the process.

Arriving at Tui Events was like stepping into a sanctuary. Nestled in nature and just moments from one of the most breathtaking beaches, it was the perfect setting to unwind and reconnect. The weekend unfolded in the most beautiful way—woven together with yoga, inspiring educational talks by Chai, and the most nourishing meals crafted with love by Bex. Every moment was an invitation to slow down, to be present, and to soak in the magic of community.

We ventured to a waterfalls, taking cold plunges that jolted us into a deep sense of aliveness. But the true highlight? Beach yoga at sunset, with a silent disco and an ocean dip. feeling the sand beneath my feet, and surrendering to the music in my own little bubble—it was pure bliss.

By the end of the weekend, my cup was full. These experiences are such a powerful reminder of why I love retreats—the opportunity to step away, recalibrate, and return feeling more connected to myself and others.

There’s something incredibly transformative about giving yourself the space to retreat. In the busyness of daily life, it’s easy to put our own needs on the back burner, to stay caught up in routines, responsibilities, and the endless to-do lists. But retreats offer something different—a pause, a chance to reset, to nourish body and mind, and to reconnect with what truly matters. They remind us of the importance of community, movement, mindfulness, and deep rest. They provide the kind of clarity and inspiration that’s hard to access in the everyday hustle.

This weekend reinforced how vital these spaces are—not just for myself, but for so many others. And it has sparked something in me: a deep desire to create and hold this kind of space for others.

So, watch this space! My journey into hosting day retreats in the local area is finally beginning, and I can’t wait to share more soon.
